This is a great software to use. It helps with your pronunciation and learning Spanish here has been a blast. While it is a bit pricey I think this is a great software to use overall, and would totally recommend it.
I looked at several different programmes and Rocket seemed to be a good fit for me and possibly the most complete. I like that we are learning conversations not just words right from the start and the exercises help imprint the learning. The survival book is very helpful but it would have been much better with the audio.. It would be good to encompass some of the things in the book in the lessons. I found the feminine and masculine and plurals etc especially with the symbols over some letters quite confusing until I read the survival guide.
Overall, definitely gets you "speaking" quite a bit. The great majority of this, however, is just rote copying of what was just heard. Regurgitation, not processing and internalizing. The rest is straight translation, which in my opinion is a far inferior way to learn a language. A good number of lessons use words/phrases/tenses that have never been discussed and are simply not explained. There are quite a few glitches with speech recognition, especially regarding numbers and accent marks. The material is HEAVILY focused on travel, which I get makes some sense if you're learning Spanish in order to travel, but I suspect a large number of people are like me, learning Spanish to use in everyday life. May just be a US bias though, where Spanish can be very useful almost everywhere.
Response from Rocket Languages
Response from Rocket Languages: Hi Michael - Thanks for your review. There are differing viewpoints on what is the best way to learn a language and I am sure that it is different for different people. In our case, we try to provide a very comprehensive course that covers a variety of learning styles. On a side note; there has been an issue with the numbers returned from voice recognition not matching as they should, even if it was pronounced correctly. We are looking into that!
Good but still I well give this company 1000 dollars.
Thirty years ago, I used Pimsluer tapes purchased by my employer and local university continuing education classes that they paid for. I did obtain sufficient fluency at the time which worked well traveling to Mexico. But, "use it or lose it" caught up to me. I want to regain where I was and go further. With Spanish podcasts, other Internet options and Spanish cable channels, "using it so as not to lose it" is more available. And, I now have some "locals" who I know that have Spanish as their first language or, are like me, and "don't want to lose it" again. We meet every week to have coffee or tea and to chat with each other. It is a great way to meet new people and to bring people together! Finally, en español, "Deseo hacer un viaje a Ecuador y las islas de Galapagos, y tambien, un viaje a Costa Rica con "Habitat for Humanity". Me gustaria hablar en su lengua."
¡Muchas gracias, Rocket Spanish! ¡Amy and Mauricio "Rock It"!
I purchased all three levels of Rocket Spanish sometime ago. I have recently started to seriously work through levels 1, 2 and 3. I wish I had done this a while back. You can’t help but learn and become conversational in Spanish to a high level if you systematically work through all the exercises. I love the variety of Rocket Spanish. An excellent pogramme.
I recently became frustrated with the slow pace of another online Spanish language program and started poking around the I'net for reviews and commentary. Rocket Spanish really stood out from the crowd. I signed on for a trial run and Immediately "took off". In place of beautiful graphics and endless repetition of very limited vocabulary, with little grammatical assistance, I found intensive drills and dialogs with careful explanation of Spanish's many puzzling (for English users) distinctions in usage.
I especially appreciate the chance to keep hammering away at a troublesome phrase in "Hear It/Say It" and "Know It" until I can duplicate the speaker's pronunciation, although there are a few odd words, like "Ah" and Mauricio's last name (Evlampieff) that never seem to get interpreted quite right. Subtle little touches, like the running point totals, help provide a more or less continuous push to keep working at it.
I am more than pleased with my progress thus far and hope to follow the course through to its concluseion.

I have been living in USA for many years so had tried other Spanish language courses. Rocket has been the best I have ever tried. It tests you with conversations so that every lesson you get to practice talking as well as writing. It really is awesome. I have recommended it to all my friends and I can't wait to get to use my new second language on all my Spanish speaking friends. Thank you Rocket for your wonderful courses!
I started Spanish with another well known language product. After two months I knew a lot of words, but couldn't put enough together to make a sentence. After a short time with Rocket Languages I can actually speak and understand a few phrases. Great program!
After just a couple weeks using Rocket Languages I have learned how to start conversations, although carrying on is still a little difficult (practice makes perfect). I highly recommend repeating the first couple lessons until you get them memorized. Rocket Languages has put a lot of great material which helps anyone learn quickly and effectively. I almost gave up on learning Spanish, but once I found Rocket Languages it was a game changer. The usability and interactive audio lessons far outweighs the cost. They made this fully immersive with the 3 major senses of learning; through sight, sound, and speech. All three together make this a solid learning system. Good job Rocket Languages!
