Shokrun arba3a message. I like the language very much however I have not been able to learn much as we have had many earthquakes here in Christchurch, New Zealand and it is hard to concentrate - learning a little at a time. Assalamu 3laykum "peace be upon you" - very nice words. Just one question though - Do the Christians use the same greetings as the Muslims in Egypt? Shokrun

Ahlan all! Izz K - please let me know if you need any help :) Carol - our offices are also in Christchurch so we fully understand! Good on you for keeping up with your Arabic :) The greeting "assalamu 3alaykum" is usually used between Muslims to greet each other all over the world. It means "peace be upon you" so you could technically use it to greet Christian Egyptians, but to keep on the safe side I would say stick to "ahlan" since it's neutral :) - Amira

Hi everyone I am also new here. I work in Sharjah in the UAE and live in Dubai. I am from England but have been here for the last 5 years. As this course seems to be based on Egyptian Arabic i find it interesting to note some of the subtle differences with Gulf Arabic, ie the most common way of saying "how are you?" here in Dubai would be (apologies for the spelling) "Khaaf Harlik?" Look forward to working through the course. Ma'a assalama
