Why when asking when did the doctor go to see the lady is "fue" used. Would it be correct to say "va" too?
fue or va in this case?

Va is the present tense of to go, ...the doctor goes to see the lady...whereas fue is the past tense...the doctor went to see the lady. In your example, "when did the doctor go to see the lady" the word "did" sounds like the past tense to me, therefore fue. I could be wrong, but that is my logic.
