Hola. Mi nombre es Keyatta. Soy de los Estados Unidos. I am learning Spanish and I am a shy person. I have lots of mexican friends and when I am around them they will be speaking Spanish. I want to speak Spanish and start a conversation with them in Spanish but I am always shy. What can I do to get over my shyness??? Please tell me I have to know.

If you want to improve your spanish, just go for it! Whats the worst that can happen, after you do. You'll realize it was the best thing to do, because it allows you to practise your spanish.

Hola, Keyatta! I'd say just try something new! Don't be scared to talk :). And if you want to learn to talk in Spanish, then this is the lesson for you :P. And really try the best you can to speak in Spanish... Like right now I'm have trouble speaking Spanish, but I'm trying and trying to get better.

When I learned English I found the best way to practice was with a young, native speaking child. You won't feel shy, they won't laugh at you. If it makes no sense they just ignore you which really helped me to become confident. It's also fun to play the 'what's this called' game with a child, they'll think it's fun and you can learn something.

Thank you for making me confident! :) I used your advice and i told my spanish friend teresa " Puede ayudarma?" and she understand me. :) I was so happy! The reason why I said I needed help to her in spanish because I needed help with my homework. Thank you guys so much!!!:) Gracias!!

Bien echo!! But if she is your friend, you could try saying '¿Puedes ayudarme?' as its more informal! But either way, it doesn't matter as long as she can understand you :)

I find that most people appreciate it if you try to learn their native tongue, and they are very helpful to those who they can see really want to learn. I would not be shy if they are your friends I bet they would be more than happy to help you out! I wish I had some Spanish speaking friends to listen to and learn from.

Andrew: some friendly advice that I hope causes no offense: I think that writing more complete and proper English sentences and making sure your spelling of Spanish words is correct will allow you to get more meaningful interactions from others here.
For example, I am not sure what, if anything, you are asking with "k?". I could understand your statement, but if you really want to learn to speak, understand, read, and write Spanish, really watch your spelling, as in "hablo."
Save the shorthand for text messages and twitter. Again, I apologize in advance for any offense that I caused.
