¡Hola!
Qué tal? I am learning Spanish via podcast as well as with a teacher once a week? How long does it take to be able to have a general conversation with some confidence independently?

Hola Lulu & ZeeZee,
It really depends on your commitment to the program. If you give the effort to read through the Beginner's Book, follow along the audio conversations, and read each of the lessons in sequence you'll be surprised how much much you'll be able to learn. Commitment, consistency, and practice. With every small conversation you have with a Spanish speaker you'll also learn something new. Keep up the hard work!

Hola!
Estoy aprendiendo español con Rocket Spanish. Está muy fácil para me cuándo yo aprender un sujeto nuevo.
Learning Spanish in whatever time period is completely up to you and how fast you can absorb information. Use what you learn as much as you can and it will stick with you.
I have family that speaks Spanish, so I send them text messages as much as I can in Spanish. It helps me a lot. I tested out of Spanish in school with the highest test score without using any material other than Rocket Spanish. I can read pretty well now in Spanish, but my speaking and listening comprehension isn't the best.
Conversation wise, since I'm not use to hearing the language, the person I speak with has to speak slow. I can have short conversations in Spanish and order almost anything in a restaurant in Spanish.
Set goals for yourself and before you know it, you'll be speaking Spanish.
