Is real spanish conversation so formal? I'm interested in casual, realistic, everyday friendlier form.

I think part of the problem is What vernacular? I would imagine, just as in the US, that Mexico or Argentina would have several vernaculars in itself. Spanish is spoken in a huge area of the world, how can they teach all the slang and localisms for such a big language. For me, learning the grammar is just learning the rules of the game. Once you figure out how to speak the language, you can adjust to local customs  or practices. My opinion.

My apologies for joining in on this discussion a little late! As Daryl-O1 has pointed out, Christine1794,
it is difficult for us to include a lot of local vernacular and slang terms since Latin America is such a big place with so many different regions - and since these language elements can change so quickly too! 

However, you can still find plenty of examples of casual, everyday Spanish in our courses. In fact, many of the conversations in the Interactive Audio lessons take place in informal situations and use friendly turns of phrase that you can hear and use anywhere in Latin America. As you continue into later modules of the course, you'll find that there are more conversations that take place between established friends rather than between strangers, and so are more casual - these might be the ones that you're looking for.
