Hi, I've tried twice to do the benchmark test, but each time it suddenly cut me off and gave me 23%, then 13%. Could it  be that it does this automatically when I try to have another go at a difficult question (although the format seems to offer this possibility, just as in the lessons) ?

When you make your third mistake, you are done. In theory it gets progressively harder. It can be frustrating as I think I know more than I am scoring, but it is just for fun, so I have gotten over it.

Thanks, good answer. But they should explain how it works somewhere. Also, in sentences out of context it can be just luck choosing between alternatives. All the points, badges, leadership blabla stuff is pretty irrelevant, dope and candy, we just need to know for ourselves how we're really doing, is it sticking, etc. 🥸 cheers, r

Agree that luck has something to do with it. But you grade yourself on everything except the quiz questions, so I am generous with my assessment. If I gave an acceptable answer, I count it.

Me too, but as you explained, our own assessments don't wash with the Benchmark (cuts off after 3 ‘errors’). Don't really care either, but I'm curious to know how you know how the points, grades, badges etc system works, is it explained somewhere?

In the benchmark, most of the time you are giving yourself a strike.

The points/badges/etc are hard to find (and this has been mentioned multiple times, but I guess the right people are not reading this).

Aftre hunting for a while I found it . You click on the upper right hand corner icon for you, click Help Center, type in what you are interested in into the search box. You could also hunt through all the help center topics as I believe they are all listed there.

Got it, many thanks. Enjoy the Japanese! (if you're continuing with it). Very interesting and fun language.

I am a Spanish student. I did live in Japan for 3 years and gave a small attempt when we first moved there. Too complicated for me (partly, I was very busy).
