Change to the website - recording now automatic

All of a sudden today, the record is now automatically started after hearing the word/phrase (I was starting the Listening quiz). At the very least, I like a moment to review it in my mind and often I have to listen several times. I vote it goes back to me being the one who decides when to record.

Hi Scott - As you noted, we have made a few tweaks to the way some of the activities work. We have been rolling these out over the last week or so in particular.

I am keen to hear your feedback (and other members!). So, if you (or any other member) do come across anything else then please let us know.

In the meantime, I will look into your feedback on the “Listening” activity!

Hi Robert - Oops! I will get our team onto sorting out the dark mode appearance of the conversations. Thanks for pointing it out.

Hi Jason

Am quite happy with the change. I did notice it was different, but hasn't impacted me in a negative way at all. I still think Rocket is amazing value for money and an excellent way to learn a language. I really hope that one day you will add a Play the Part to Spanish and Italian. Just love the practicality of Play the Part in German. Feel the Travelogues don't bring as much to the table. I live in hope! : )

Hi Maxie - Good news! The Spanish and Italian Play The Parts are being recorded over the next few weeks!

Hi Robert - Dark mode issue on “Role Playing” is fixed!

Agree that having the recording start automatically is not an improvement.  Particularly when working on a lesson for the first time (or even the fifth!), I want a moment to think about how to form the correct pronounciation.

Great news about the Play the Parts for Italian, Jason.  More Rocket added value!  I support the Listening/auto record comment; i.e. no need for the auto record IMO.  It doesn't bring anything to the party.

Overall, the regular updates demonstrate why Rocket is the market leader as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks

Chris

Hi All

Just done a listenning activity. No longer have to press the record button or “R”

So convenient!.

Hi all - With the “Listening” activity… we are going to try a couple of things:

A. Revert the default way it works back to how it was (i.e. you have to press the Record button to record)

B. Add a check box toggle to the Listening activity settings that allows auto-record if you want it.

And when using it in “auto-record” mode we will add a slight pause between the tutor audio playing and the start of the recording process. This may make a difference for those tricky phrases where you need a second to think about it!

These changes will be rolled out over the next few days. Thanks for your patience!

Hi Scott - Can you elaborate on your comment about the Role Play? I am not quite sure what you mean.

I like the flexibility!

Do you mean auto-record?

Curious why the Role Play (what shows on my computer) are being re-recorded. It seemed to me like they captured the audio from the lesson.

I might be the one not understanding, but in each lesson (before the working sections) is a section labelled like this:

Role PlayingRole play as one of the characters in the conversation

I was thinking you are re-recording that as I don't have anything labelled “Play the Part”. I do Spanish.

Hi Scott - Sorry for the misunderstanding here! The “Play the Part” series are an additonal conversation-based course that we are rolling out (so far we have them for French, Japanese, Chinese-Mandarin, and German). They are coming soon for Spanish and Italian (hopefully within the next month).

The Play the Part courses consist of 30 lessons, where each lesson is based around a practical everyday conversation or two. There aren't any grammar explanations to worry about: the focus is on getting you ready for the kinds of things that people will actually say in real-life scenarios - and what you should say in return!

Ah, so I was the confused one.  Loosely similar to Travelouges?

Hi Scott - I would say the Play the Parts are far more focused on practical everyday conversations. The Travelogues are more of a sprawling journey through Latin America (at least as far as the Spanish Travelogues go!).

Great, look forward to seeing them!

Hi all - For those interested, we have made the changes to the “Listening” activity as per my previous post!

Jo Jo

Hi,

(Not sure if this note goes here?)

Thank you for the new additions, especially play it/role play the last few months for Chinese! Those are the best!

For the recent change, could you please help put the cards back to colored in the Chinese composition lessons? They are now white and hard on the eyes when using dark mode. I also miss how they would all light up green if you got them correct (or red if you got any wrong).

Thank you kindly for your help!
