Increase Flexability by Having Stop, Start, and Pause Features in the Audio

One thing I wish is to be able to stop or to start listening to an audio recording part way through.  This would permit reviewing new vocabulary and phrases again and again in isolation from the whole.  This would be especially helpful in longer audios, in which part is already well known and part is new to the learner.

Besides the above, it would also be handy to be able to pause the audio part way through.  This would also permit the learner to think about and/or say the beginning before continuing.  Again:  handy in longer audios.

As it is now, one must always play to the audio from the beginning, even if one is trying to concentrate on the last part of the audio.  Besides this, there's no pause feature.

Hi Diana - Thanks for your feedback. Are you talking about the streaming of the Interactive Audio lesson tracks in particular?

I would also like to see a more "express" form for the interactive audio.  That is, have a version where you omit the blank time where we are supposed to practice.  This would be good for reviewing concepts.

Another idea is to include a transcript in the native language in the extra vocabulary section.  Rocket Spanish Premium Plus and Platinum seem to do this.

Yes, Jason, the Interactive Audio Lessons in particular, but all audio lessons might be nice.  Some people might also like that.

Hi Robert - After talking to the development team it seems that it wouldn't be straight forward to make an "express" version of the IAC tracks as you suggest.

I am not quite sure what you mean by;

Hi Diana - You should be able to pause and start the audio from wherever you wish. What device and browser are you using?

Hi Diana
An idea you might find helpful that I us.
I run the downloaded audio file in a seperate window with my windows media centre, so the file will continue to run regardless what page you flit from on your coarse, you can also pause it and drag back to whatever part of the audio you wish.
I hope this helps.

On my end pause and play work well. Even the recording have pause / play/ stop buttons.

Maybe I am not sure what you mean?

I think that Diana may be talking about the play button in the Conversation Transcript and Additional Vocabulary sections of the lessons. Once you click on a phrase you can pause, but when you hit resume it goes back to the beginning and starts over again. On longer sentences where I didn't get a clear understanding of what was being said in the middle or end of the sentence, I have often wished I could stop and start the playback throughout without starting all over again from the beginning.

Yes, if you hit the stop button, the recording starts all over on resume.  However, now it's possible to begin listening in the middle of the sentence.  As Dan just wrote, that's especially handy on long sentences.  Simply take the mouse pointer to where you want to start listening and tap the left mouse button.   I love it.  So far I've only tried it out on a Language and Culture lesson.

As for downloading the lessons:  I don't do it, as I'm totally happy to study RF on my computer.  If I want to listen to French while walking or driving, I use another source that I've purchased on CDs.

Same here. If I want to listen to Spanish while walking, I use another source that I purchased and put on my iPod.

Diana and Steven, you can download the app for Rocket Languages to your smart phone and play the recorded lesson there, if you are wanting to take advantage of shortening your learning curve.  I walk 1 to 2 miles every day and listen to the current lesson, sometimes 2 or 3 times in a week.  When I am home, I do the other lessons that require more sight reading or typing.  Each time I go back to listening to the recording on my walk, I know more and more each time.  But, that brings me to one thing I would like to have, is for the time I spend on the phone app, I'd like the points to accumulate when i get back onto the PC at home. Sadly, every day, I come home, no points.  Por mala suerte!

I would like to add that it would be nice to have the ability to pause on the Play It section.  I am especially needing that functionality on Rocket Spanish lesson 11.1.  The rolling play goes so fast, i am unable to keep up.  This occurs even with the first level where I can see all the words, I still have to read super fast to try to keep up.  I need an extra cup of coffee to read as fast as it is advancing.  The pause button would be a handy tool.

Hi Diana - The 2016 edition will feature changes/improvements to Play it! One of which is that pausing ability!
