IS there a way to set the order of previously missed words to come up first on the next round?

After going through the recording sections the first time the program helpfully starts the second round on the words that were missed on the first.  But if one doesn't get them right on that second pass or wants to keep them high on the practice list, it seems one then has to go through all the words - even the ones already known which is tedious if one ones to just target on the small subset of most difficult words.
It seems as if one leaves that section and then comes back to it the program will again give one pass at the most difficult words not yet in the EASY category.  Is there a way to do this without leaving the section?

Yeah, that would really be useful.  For sections that have more then 20 words (I've encountered a list of 58 words so far), it can be slightly uninspiring to have to go through all those words just to get to that one or two words you are trying to remember.  And then when you finally do get to that word, you forget again and have to repeat again.

I agree.  Sometimes a lessons has, for review sake, words and/or phrases that were previously covered and are well known to me.  When I encounter them in the flashcards, I mark them as easy.  It's rather disconcerting for those ones to be near the beginning when I repeat the flashcards.  It would be more productive if the system could present words according to the level of difficulty previously indicated by the user.

I also agree. In fact, I have stopped using the flashcards here for that very reason. When the number of cards in a lesson is too long to finish in one session, it is a less efficient use of time to be presented with ones I already did and ranked "easy" the last time. Ideally it would be a spaced repetition system like Anki, where you see the cards you had trouble with more frequently.

Even if Rocket German would add vocab list export option we could easily load them into any one of a dozen other flashcard systems that have this function, and allow custom lists.

Maybe we could just cut and past, Vocab lists.  That hadn't occurred to me until now.  Even still, it is such an easy capability to add I really hope the Rocket Team puts it high on our collective Wish List."

What would really work is if for each section you can decide which words you want to use.  So if you really only want to work with 5 at a time, then you can do five, and only the specific five that you have selected, then add other words later.

Exporting/importing would be easier. But I recently read a book entitled "Fluent Forever." The author is a big advocate of Anki, and maintains that the act of creating flashcards yourself with connections that are meaningful to you is the most important part of learning, and that subsequent studying reminds and reinforces what you learned originally.

Hi Dan-H24,
You make an excellent point here, which I largely agree with.  I had that same thought last night as I was copying the flashcards onto 3x5 paper index cards by hand.

But, I also believe we should at any one time have the choice whether or not to do them by hand or quickly make custom sets for a specific real-time learning need.

For example, we could imagine an ancient master teaching suggesting that if we really want to learn Chinese properly we could just use a Dictionary and Grammar book and look everything up for the value of discipline and the valuable experience.

Those of us here have already chosen to take the "easier path" of using more advanced learning resources such as digital lessons, flashcards, etc.  While we may be "on the slippery slope" and at risk of succumbing to the "dangers" of modernism, I for one am happy to take the risk and dance on the edge of the cliff of that danger and use the latest, fastest, and best tools available, especially when actually paying money for a learning system when so many free resources are readily available online.

(I guess in an international venue I should explicit mark the above comment as "snark" - a kind of good nature humor meant as a way of "spicing up" or adding an element of fun to a discussion. Although sometimes used to be sarcastic and biting, here I am trying only to be humorous in a good natured way.)

I agree everyone should take the time, at some point to write out all the words by hand many times, however, each student may find it most efficient to do this at different times.  For example, in my own case, I am still trying to get over the initial "hump" of technical challenges that have ended over a dozen previous attempts to learn Chinese.  I am hoping if I can learn enough "fun" lessons in this early period it will sustain my motivation to make it into a more advanced and disciplined stage.  But, I am not there yet. So having to stop and rewrite flashcards by hand makes me think, "hey I could have done this with a free list of the most common Chinese words," available on hundreds of websites.

BTW, I am very pleased overall with this Rocket Course and have already learned more here than with all the other systems I have tried combined.  I have dozens of books, flashcard sets, learning systems systems that I have purchased every time I've been to the Republic of China.  Having so many very quick examples of real life conversations,  that can move quickly, has been extremely helpful.

Hi all - Just confirming that customizable FlashCard lists are coming to your Rocket course in the very near future! We are just about done with the initial app upgrade (Stage 1) and about the same time we will liven up a few Flashcard improvements, including the aforementioned customization.

Stage 2 of the app upgrade will include having the FlashCards working on the app. This is due later in the year.

Also, the idea originally posited at the start of this thread is a good one and I will add it to the consideration list!

Great news, thank you Jason.

BTW, if you ever need Alpha or Beta testers you can count me in.  Also, if you ever want to do some experiments with boosting your Installed Base and number of users I have many family and friends who I'd love to gift into these language programs.

To you and the whole Rocket Team,

Keep up the great work!

This is a classic example  that makes Rocket Languages one of the best software learning tools out there. (See Jason O's post "The Best Language Learning Software?")  The RL software is constantly being upgraded and the end-users have a forum to express their needs; furthermore, those needs are heard and used in the upgrades.

Hi all - Quick update: We are looking at adding the feature in the near future whereby members can focus on just the words/phrases that are not rated Easy when redoing a Test. Watch this space!

Thanks a lot for the update Jason.  You just keep making Rocket better and better.

Thanks Jason.  If we could add two simple items to the wish list, being able to print out that select group of flashcards, as well as a single global "Print All" for the MyVocab list it would be a great help.  My Vocab list is over 60 pages and unless I am missing something I having to print them out one page at a time. +

Thanks.

Thank you Jason and everyone else at Rocket Languages!  I just tested out the new feature for practicing on words that are not easy.  It really helps a whole lot.

And this is why Rocket Languages is in my opinion the best language learning software in the world.  The staff responds to user issues quickly and efficiently.  I appreciate everything that you continue to do!

Hi David - We will look into the print functions!

Hi Truetenor - I am not sure what part you are looking at! We have made some layout changes so that the new app release lines up but haven't implemented anything different with the "Non-easy" phrases (although it is coming soon).
