Is there some sort of glitch in the system regarding points? When I rate a lesson or take a proficiency test, I'm not receiving points for doing so. I know there is a maximum amount of points you can receive for each category, but it says you can receive a maximum of 1500 points for scoring higher than an 80% on a proficiency test and I have taken each test twice and only received a total of 600 points instead of 1200. Also, I just completed and rated two lessons today and I didn't receive any points. It's not really a big deal, but I do have to admit that I get a little satisfaction when I see my point total rise, haha. Any info would be appreciated!

The same thing has happened too me. i've done everything on the list for points but half of them were not added?? Once i logged off and back on and i got more points maybe your computer/laptop or whatever your using is slow like mine???
Shannon-S

I'm having the same issue. One time logging out and back in will solve it and another day it won't. :(
Byron-K21

Byron-K21

You don't get extra points for taking the same test again, unless you didn't get 80% the first time. Regarding points, it would be helpful if there was a score card to tell you how many points you have in each category..
Lindzey-T

Lindzey-T

yes i agree with Byron that would be great if there was a score board.
Lindzey-T

Lindzey-T

i just found a page that says the last 20 or so points you earned so i guess its kinda the same.
Byron-K21

Byron-K21

Yeah, I saw that too, but I would still like a total by category so I could more easily focus on areas where I had opportunities for more points versus areas where I was maxed out. I guess that sounds competitive, but if it helps you to study harder, then it's a good thing.
Lindzey-T

Lindzey-T

yeah defiantly :)
Jan-Oe

ah, here it is where i see the competitors for points and badges :-) It is surprising how much points some people have collected in only a few days. There seem to be students who rise from novice to leader in some days. Isn't a bit unrealistic?
Byron-K21

Byron-K21

Not so much when you consider many of us had been taking the courses for several years. For example, I had already taken Premium and Premium Plus so I could retake quizzes and proficiency tests to quickly gain points, plus doing recordings which is new. Yeah, I guess I'm a bit competitive but mostly with myself, not so much with other people.
Lindzey-T

Lindzey-T

haha sounds like me;) soon as i found ways to earn points i went crazy :D

and we both have closest competition on the leaderboard :-) I will review some more lections on food and colors to close up to you :-) Viel Erfolg beim Lernen, Lindzey!
Byron-K21

Byron-K21

Ah, well, I haven't checked the leaderboard lately. Earlier it wasn't updating correctly. Anyway, I've picked all of the low hanging fruit and have maxed out in many areas. I'm now reviewing all the material in my Premium Plus before I take my Premium Plus Proficiency tests. After that, points are going to be hard to come by. I'm no good at the advanced games. My hand/eye coordination just isn't good enough. I was never very good at video games for the same reason. I could never beat my 10 year old son. Viel Glück
Shannon-S

Shannon-S

None of the stuff I've done has been updated in forever. It's annoying. I'm not worried about where I am in relation to anyone else, but I should be credited for what I'm doing. I did a lot of the Premium Plus lessons before Christmas just by listening to the tapes and now I'm going back to rate them and see what I've retained.

Hi all - I am really sorry for the glitches with the points and badges system. The glitch came at a bad time as there has only been a skeleton crew on over the holiday season. It looks like we have fixed the main issues. In saying that please let support@rocketlanguages.com know if there are any further issues! Once again, sorry for the glitches! All the best Jason
Shannon-S

Hi Jason I'm still having glitch problems: haven't been credited for anything since January 6th. I've sent a message to support. Shannon

Are you maxed out in some areas? You can get only a limited number of points in each area. Actually, I find the way they restrict points a little strange. I understand that you should only get credit once for each quiz you pass. However, it seems like if you are taking Premium Plus or Platinum you should get credit for those quizes but instead you will max out before even completing all of the Premium quizes. The way the points are scaled makes it possible to get a lot of badge points for the Premium lessons, as I did, but after that you max out in so many areas that I'm not sure I can ever reach the next level even when I complete all of my Premium Plus and Platinum exercises which I intend to do. I understand that the scale shouldn't be perfectly linear, but it is skewed too much to the lower end. You probably shouldn't be able to get a guru badge until completing Premium Plus, but after that, if you complete the Platinum you should be able to get the next and highest level.

Hi Byron and Shannon - With something new like this system we had to make some calls without really knowing how it would pan out in the real world once members starting using it. We will be reviewing it sometime in February once we have a few months worth of feedback to look at and try to make it work even better!
Byron-K21

Byron-K21

Yes, I realize that. Well, for what it's worth, here is my feedback: 1 I understand the need to max out certain areas, but it should be distributed across all lessons and levels. For example, I shouldn't be able to max out my quiz points on only 1/3 of the quizzes. 2 All quizzes and all proficiency tests should earn points in all levels, i.e. premium, plus, and platinum 3 You should not be able to get too many points at the Premium level. For example, I have a guru badge and don't feel I deserve it for Premium points. Perhaps Premium should allow you to advance to only Leader, then you need Premium Plus to earn Specialist and Guru. Finally, you need Platinum to earn the top level of Germanophile or whatever your language is. 4 I realize there may be some students that skip the Premium level and start with Premium Plus. They can gain their Leader badge by passing the Premium quizzes and Proficiency tests. 5 I recommend that points be assigned not just for any recordings, but individually for Hear It/Say It and Know It. You want to encourage people to take advantage of all learning tools. 6 So what about people that already have badges? Well, if you know the material retaking quizzes and Proficiency tests is not that time consuming. If you reset the scoring system and made everyone start over, I personally wouldn't feel bad about it. Review is good. One could retest in a couple of weeks. thanks for the opportunity to give my feedback. Byron

This new points/badge system is WONDERFUL! BRAVO! You've taken our Spanish class to a level that really reaches my kids. They have used Rocket Language Spanish (prior to points/ badges/ leader board) and found it entertaining but not to this new level of FUN. Spanish is no longer a class I can teach them while sitting down (they are ages 9 &12)...it's a race to add points, earn badges and get to the top of the leader board. Now they each want their own account to compete against each other. Thanks for bringing our home school foreign language class to life.

Hi Jason, I really like this new badge system. I understand that you need some to time to "adjust the system". I noticed one bug on the leaderboard. Last week is in your calculation < week. So currently from 31.dec to 7 january. I would like to see more competition going on for motivation. Instead of just seeing, what is currently working hard as me, I would like to see also the students close to my "study level". Could this be a possible enhancement? What do the others think about it?
Byron-K21

Byron-K21

I personally don't care that much about competing with other people. We all, I'm sure, have differing amounts of time that we can spend on our language studies. I do like the satisfaction of being able to measure my own progress as I pass through the lessons. The points are a little extra incentive to work harder. It's one thing to say you've completed a lesson but another to earn the points that prove, if only to yourself, you actually comprehended it.

Hi Jan07 and Byron (and everyone else interested in this thread!) - We are going to make a few changes next week to how the badges and points system works. I will put together a blog post (https://www.rocketlanguages.com/blog/) about it towards the end of next week! Thanks again for all your feedback!
Shannon-S

Shannon-S

Thanks, Jason. I am indeed following the thread and look forward to reading your blog. For myself, I could live happily without a badge system (part of what drew me to Rocket German in the first place was the assurance that I could work through the course material at my own pace and in my own time--without feeling pressured to work against others). Having said that, if there's to be a badge system, it should work logically and smoothly for everyone. I like Byron's idea of having a top badge ranking for each of the three levels. And if you ever develop a fourth course, I'd be at the front of the line to sign up for it!
Byron-K21

Byron-K21

I'm up for a 4th course as well although it will probably take me another 6 months before I'm ready for it.
jason-oxenham-founder

jason-oxenham-founder

Hi Shannon - We certainly thought long and hard about implementing a badge system as we didnt want our members to be put off by adding in competitive elements when, as you say, the course is designed for people to learn at their own pace. I think we have made a reasonable compromise on that. And as I mentioned previously a few improvements will be coming out next week. :) With regards to future courses see my post from 23rd Dec on the http://members.rocketlanguages.com/your-community/general/new-languages

Hi Jason--I saw that posting, and I 'get it'...just a bit of wishful thinking on my part. :) I have a friend who started learning a second language with Rosetta Stone about the same time I started with Rocket German. She says she now knows lots of vocabulary but isn't able to communicate with anyone in her new language. I appreciate so much that Rocket German has given me the ability and confidence to use the language right from the very first lesson. It's an excellent program....no wonder I want more.
ReyesKidzUSA

ReyesKidzUSA

Shannon- I have to agree with you on this program being so great. Like your friend, I also used another program to start my children on a foreign language (Spanish) and I did not see the results as much as I do with the few lessons they have done in Rocket Spanish. Rocket Spanish is not as visual but it is way more effective in giving my children the ability to master each lessons phrases and put them to use in conversation. Above all the kid think it is FUN! Now, if there were a Rocket Latin...woo-hoo :)) Currently, we are using Memoria Press Second Form Latin.

jason-oxenham-founder

jason-oxenham-founder

Hi Shannon - Yes, we made a quick change which means that there are no limits set on point gathering. We also changed a column in "How to get more points", which instead of showing the previous limits shows how many points in total have been achieved by that method. More stuff coming next week!
Byron-K21

Byron-K21

I like it. It's a good thing to open up scoring for all levels and lessons. I really like seeing my points steadily increase. About the only thing I think you need to do is recalibrate the badge points. I'm completely reviewing my Premium and Premium Plus (every recording and every quiz) and before I've even finished Premium Plus, I'll have 10,000 points which currently reaches the highest level. I think one should not be able to reach the highest level until completing or nearly completing Level 3. Good job though! Regards to the team. Great responsiveness.
jason-oxenham-founder

jason-oxenham-founder

Hi Byron - We are probably going to leave the current badge/point system as it is but extend it out by having, for example, 3 star Rocket Francophile. With "stars" being gained every time a new points level is reached. We are still figuring out the best way to do this, so more details on this at the end of next week! I believe this will cater for those members who have Premium only (and may never upgrade to higher levels) as well as those who have more levels.
Byron-K21

Byron-K21

Sure, that works too, and probably is easier for you to extend than recalibrate. I'm totally on board. thanks, Byron
jason-oxenham-founder

jason-oxenham-founder

Hi all - Some more changes to the Badges/points system. The Leaderboard now has an "All time" filter, so you can all see how well Byron is going :). By Monday we will have an extended points system up and running along with appropriate Badges as mentioned in my previous post!
Byron-K21

Byron-K21

Thanks Jason, but I'm not even the leader. I must confess though, I get some satisfaction from seeing my points increase, It seems sometimes like grade school when the teacher posted points for reading assignments or arithmetic quizzes or whatever. I suppose they don't do that so much anymore. Seems like we are trying to teach kids that being competitive is wrong e.g. not keeping scores for mite hockey games. Whatever, I'm having fun with it. It's working for me. So, Germanophiles, who will be the first to break 20,000 points? Game on?
jason-oxenham-founder

jason-oxenham-founder

Hi Byron - Sorry I was being tongue in cheek a little, although you do sit at No.4 in the all time list on the Leaderboard :). I have just finished reading Daniel Coyles book, The Talent Code. Its a great read with quite a few applications to enhancing the learning experience... recommended! As per that book and your comments re points, it's definitely horses for courses...

Sometimes my points add on and sometimes they don't, too.
jason-oxenham-founder

jason-oxenham-founder

Hi Alan - The issue you have may have come about because you only get awarded points for Rocket Record the very first time you use it for a particular word/phrase. So, you wont get extra Rocket Record points for using the My Level tests if you have used that that word/phrase elsewhere. We will add a FAQ about this as it seems to have confused a few people.

I reached the platinum stage of rocket spanish but went back to premium plus level to tackle the know it section and just recently now the write it section but i am not obtaining any points for rating these lesson I started using rl android app and my dash board isn't refelting any changes either ( necesito ayuda)
jason-oxenham-founder

jason-oxenham-founder

Hi Jamaal - There is an issue with the apps, to cut a long story short we used a code base that was meant to work in both Android and iOS. Unfortunately that code base couldn't handle some of the more advanced functionality that we now have with this latest upgrade. So, we are in the process of getting the apps remade in native code for Android and iOS respectively.

But even on my computer i wasn't getting points for rating the know it section
jason-oxenham-founder

jason-oxenham-founder

Hi Jamaal - Just today we changed the points structure so that members get 25 points for each Test they successfully rate (including Know it!), and 5 points for every Rocket Record use. If this is still not working for you then please try hard refreshing the page a few times (ctrl + F5).

Thanks Jason last ? Since I am currently using my phone (droid) when you'll fix the glitch my piont that I am currently not receiving will be restored automatically right!!!! Point is a great motivator for me. ... you and your team keep up the good work these are my only complaints nice up dates.

Hi Jason I think there is something wrong with the points system! I'm getting too many points!
jason-oxenham-founder

jason-oxenham-founder

Hi Jamaal - I am not sure about that. We will try to accommodate it but I cannot guarantee it unfortunately.

Hi Grahame - We have restructured the points for Testing completions and made it so every Rocket Record use gains points (it used to e that only the very first use of Rocket record for a word/phrase would count). This way people get points for revising things, which is a good idea!

Byron-K21

Byron-K21

I think it's a great idea. This way one sees progress for every test taken and I think that is motivating.
jason-oxenham-founder

jason-oxenham-founder

I should also have added that currently people get 5 points for every Rocket record use, and that is proving to be too many as peoples points are going through the roof. So we may change that to 2 points per use.

Byron-K21

Byron-K21

I think that's alright. It just means that 20K or 30K points is no big deal. You've got to get well over 100K to really max out. However, you shouldn't assign points for every time a phase is recorded. You should, in my opinion, assign points once per phrase per lesson. So that would mean for each phrase, you could get a total of 20 points: 5 for the practice, and 5 each for hear it, know it, and write it. I estimate at that rate, for 3 levels of German: premium, premium plus, and platinum, a student could earn somewhere in the neighborhood of 120K points for doing all recordings and quizes. So, you could recalibrate your rating system accordingly.
