Rocket Spanish vs Mobile App

Rocket Spanish is intermittent at best when using tools for Rocket Certification or Benchmark tests. After a dozen questions it ceases to function on my tablet. I downloaded the Mobile App which works fine but I don’t see the tools option available. Am I overlooking something?

Hi Lobo-Valador

I use my tablet or phone when I absolutely have to. I prefer my laptop, as find the phone or tablet don't highlight my saved words and unless I am missing something too, can't find tools on my phone or notes. So by default use my laptop, as I make copious notes and save lots of words.

Look forward to hearing from the Rocket team too

Agree, the app is not good. I also avoid it if at all possible. I am glad they have it as there are times I just can't spend time on my PC, but I do wish it replicated the PC experience.

If you are you using the desktop version on your tablet, have you tried using the Chrome browser. I am not sure why, but this program seems to be very dependent on using the Chrome browser.

I love the main program, but I share your concern about the app not really being equivalent to the main program.

Hi All

At least we have different options. Which I think is great

I was reading an interview this morning which included:

Q:  If you could bring something extinct back to life, what would you choose?
A:  A world without smartphones.

Sorry. I couldn't help sharing that.

The mobile app is great for plugging the phone into the car and listening to the French versions of the Travelogues narratives while driving - little else. It's shortcomings are well known. They just aren't advertised.

Seconded Robert.

Have to admit, that is pretty much all I use the mobil app for, listening to the lessons in the car (I don't have Travelogues).

Speaking only of the French narratives in Travelogues ( ** although the option of listening/reading in English is included) ;  they're comprised of what is essentially a brief story presented by a woman's voice in the style of an audiobook - clear, consistent pronunciation at a reasonable pace. It's punctuated by 1-3 Play-It's involving the usual supects followed by the highlighting of certain words/phrases.  Entirely in French. No tiresome English banter and no explanations. You're presumed to know this stuff, and for the most part, you should.

It includes the usual exercises which are, unfortunately, as usual, just a rehash of the Play-It and Vocabulary sections, rather than, say, some creative way to test your comprehension of the narrative. Significant room for enhancement here by allowing for more exercised-based interaction with the narrative.

It's the first and only real opportunity to exercise your listening comprehension in the entire platform. About 40 lessons, each 15-20 minutes. Enjoyable and recommended for anyone that's completed the first three levels.

  • ** I honestly don't understand the purpose of the English recordings. I've never listened to one, but it just seems silly to include them.

Hi all,

Thanks so much for your feedback. Regarding the app, the most used and major features of the courses are included. However, the features found in the Tools menu on desktop are unfortunately not compatible with the app, e.g. forums, Benchmark, Rocket Certification.

Also, Rocket Record works slightly differently - you will be able to record yourself and be rated for accuracy, but won’t be able to play your own recording.

To access your Tools features, and to listen to your own recordings, we recommend logging in via the desktop option with an updated Chrome browser.

I hope that helps!

I use the lap top product for my day to day lessons. But I find the app very useful for when I am in bed, or out and about. The lessons are running through my mind, and I remember (or don't) that there was a word or phrase that were particluarly difficult. So I go to the app to refresh my memory. Very useful from that point of view, always there and available.
