The 2015 Edition - soft launch!

Hello!

The topic by the same name over in news seems to be closed. Anybody know why it was closed?

They have corrected several things. Now the Rocket Test Modules have a black border around them to show they are selected. Selecting a module allows you to then see your score at the bottom (which you already know because it's in the circle) but you get the option to Retake the Test with a button just below the message.

They still have the rating bubbles (and some of my bubbles are empty because I took the test before the details were being recorded), but now we have something new!
Below each circle are four little boxes with H, W, K, and Q along with a score. Nicely done! I had imagined something more artistic inside the circle, but this works perfectly.

In the last test I took for Module 6 I only experienced one freeze. In this case, mid-way through the Know It section, the audio would not play. This is a rate it myself so, I of course give myself a very good job since there is nothing else I can do to continue and I'm afraid I will lose my place because there is no indicator as to whether my work up to this point is saved. (Hint: Please add an indicator like Google does for their documents and emails where you know if the information is written back to the server so you can close the window, kill your browser, or whatever you need to do to continue.)

One more module to go to finish Platinum Level 7 in German.  I like the new panel. I would still like to see the details of what I miss inside the quiz section, but it's not a big deal. Before working on that, I would prefer to see somebody work on letting me build a self-review of the entire Premium Level 1 to display for me a "Final Test" with everything that I marked less than perfect while doing the lessons and include the mistakes I made on my Module tests. I would like it to be fltered with a multi-select menu that allows me to, for example, select what I rated for both So-So and Pretty Good and give me a list of ALL the phrases throughout the program marked with that status. And if I want to test myself on just the Needs Work, I can just pick one and have the list change to that mode. Understand what I mean?

One little thing I notice today is that the My Vocab no longer shows the lesson numbers with the phrases. Gone. So there's no way to know if you are looking at a phrase from Platinum Level 3 or from Premium Level 1 and no way to know if it is above or below the level you are studying.  Sort of a step backwards unless there is a reason it changed.

Anyhow, thank you for the new features. Hope you can get the system running smoothly again after all these changes, and tell your support staff that I love them for having corrected over 40 issues with typos, errors, mispellings, (and maybe even one or two English translations - but I'm trying not to be too nit-picky with the English for this round of training - maybe later).  That's almost one issue every day since I started this year. They have corrected quizes, audio, everything.

Very big thank you!

The lesson numbers are back on the My Vocab. Thank you.

Also the huge list of corrections to one of the German lessons was corrected. Some of the phrases had numbers and others had time written out. I asked that all of them be written like this

Es ist halb acht / It's seven thirty (7:30)

and I hope that will be as helpful for everybody as it was for me. I just finished Module 7 test and found it much easier to just type Es ist halb acht and not have to think whether it is a phrase typed as Es ist halb 8 (as was the case before) and would get marked in red if I typed acht.

It was for lesson 7.3 here:

I'm starting to take the final test over all 7 units now and I'm already annoyed by the differences in volume of the various recordings. Some are very loud and others very quiet and fast. When taking the final test over all seven units, this becomes very clear how the program has evolved with various people over the years. Maybe someday it can be re-mastered and we can get the volume leveled out so it isn't so unpleasant. I'm guessing that might be a lot of work but I know Rosetta Stone has had to do it also. The French program I bought from them many years ago is very different from the German one I have today and I know that must have taken them an enormous amount of effort to improve all the pictures and audio and organize the way the lessons guide you through the learning process. It's a real pleasure to use but lacks the grammar guidance and forum here at Rocket Languages.

Hi Jason - Thanks for the feedback. As you rightly surmise, there are issues with legacy code and audio that are not necessarily easily resolved. In saying that, we have a large project underway to re-factor the code base as I alluded to in previous posts.

The issue with the volume in Rocket German is also being addressed.

Oh that's great news. I hit one lesson yesterday in the second part where the female voice almost sent me out of my chair and that was a volume difference in the same lesson. Brought tears to my eyes. I reported it to support. Worst one yet. But I'll keep at it.

Glad to see you back posting. Looking forward to the updates.

Thank you.
