Today I am only getting one point per flashcard instead of two.

Something seems to have gone wrong with the flashcard scoring. The built in flashcards and the custom ones are only scoring one point instead of two. After checking further it seems the same thing applies to playback and recording phrases.
This is in German, but maybe elsewhere too.

Edit: I don't think it recorded the 50 points for this post but strangely when when I reloaded the page,  the total points jumped by 100 points which looks like the missing points I should have got for the flashcards.
All very weird.

Same for Spanish.

Same here, the system, especially the flashcards, seems very buggy lately, the programmers must be doing something with the site.

I agree the same with Spanish, just getting one point no matter what. I also am learning sign language but they are still offering 2 points but it has a different platform.

Hi all - We have recently made a few changes to the points system among other things. You can read about it here;

They are some very good changes as it will sort out who is using the course properly opposed to people who are not. Much appreciated.

I like it, too.  Gives me more points for speaking.

OK, thanks, the changes make sense now. I guess I should read the blog posts to the end. :-)

Yes that would certainly help to have it updated. Also will adapt to however they want to count points.

In any case the point system will not keep me from doing what I feel is best. Though my favorite part is the flash cards.

The  audio feedback from the flash cards seems to have significantly slowed down once you hit flip.  Several seconds of dead time. Snail pace.

Hi AugAugsburg - We haven't actually changed anything as to how the FlashCards work, and we can't replicate it on our end.

Can you please provide more detail as to what is happening? Is it happening on all lessons? Just to make sure that we are on the same page.

I like this new system. Hopefully it will cut down on the point cheaters who spam the record buttons.

I like it to. I will soon prove those who work hard and those who cheat on flash cards by rapidly firing the "enter" key and "3" key repetitively in order to bolster points.

As of tomorrow I will be sitting for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test run by the Japanese Government and held world wide at authorised places.

I know how much points you can earn in a day from honest study, I know how much points you can earn through revision of stuff you know.

In my opinion what has been happening is some people do a hard days work and then that is it.

Others do a hard days work and bolster their points balance by cheating the flash card system

Others do not do any work and simply blitz the flash cards just to get their name at the top of the leader board.

Daft thing is that without doing the work, we're not going to learn the language and, whilst the leader board is great for encouragement (and for those of us who are slightly competitive), 'cheating the system' in this case merely signifies that one is cheating oneself out of the fantastic opportunity to learn, and become proficient at, a new language.  Only one loser there !

I would be curious to know how many people view the points system as competitive. Once I realized I could edit the "goal" it became a tracker for me, a way to measure how much time I've put into my current module and my participation in the community on the forum. Some days I rank high, some days I rank low. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I use the leaderboard to get an idea of how many people are actively logging in. I keep hoping they will participate in the forum because "group" conversation is missing from the self-study experience.

You sometimes can't measure hours studied per day if you are on and off this course in spare time, the points are a benchmark for yourself to beat or continue or set for each day. Winning the top is not a concern for me. Longest active streak is. So far I am up to 1157 continuous days.

I'm in awe Tony. I've only been a member for 64 days but I take pride in my 64 day streak, and am encouraged by your positive attitude. Thank you.

Day 674 for me here, and day 1007 at Duolingo.  I spend some time here, some time at Duolingo, and I also have workbooks and flashcards that I've bought on Amazon that I like to work with.
Frankly, for me, when I get too focused on the point system, it hurts my learning.  Like Tony, I like the streak feature, because it is a measure for me of my commitment, and it keeps me making the effort every day.
While the point system was helpful for quite a while at the beginning, now I would just as soon opt out of it altogether, if that were an option, or at least opt out of the rankings.  Instead, I just try to ignore them now, and not look, as they are more a distraction than an effective tool for me anymore.
