best way to work through the course?

Hi, [this is a repost from the German forum - i guess its more of a general question though] beginner here just starting out with rocket german... just wondering if anyone has any tips for the best way to work through the course? I've been listening to the audio conversations (a few times each) and practicing the pronunciation regularly after each lesson. But what other ways do you practice between lessons? Do you write down vocab? How quickly do you move through the lessons and how regularly do you go back and revise? What does your revision actually involve? Do you work through the grammar lessons at the same pace as the audio lessons (i.e. finish 1.9 before moving on to 2.1) or do you treat them separately? Any advice is welcome... i'd like to do this as efficiently as possible :) Thanks

Here is what I do : First I listen to the conversation which lasts like 1 minute. Then I try to translate the sentences I already know, and if I'm stuck I scroll down to see what it means. Then when I'm done I read through the text one more time and get it perfectly done :D After that I do the Rate Yourself thing, before ending it all with the 5-question quiz ;-) I bought Rocket Spanish Premium in the very end of July and finished it in the end of september or something (because I was busy with football/soccer and that stuff + I didn't want to practise every day.) Now a few months later I just bought Rocket Spanish Premium Plus and I have 20-25 % on the conversations and 23% completed on the fact-stuff. I REALLY love Rocket Spanish and now that I bought the Premium+ (I think it was last week) I'm practising my Spanish at least 5 times a week + I have 3 hours a week in school :D

and btw, I do 1-4 lessons each day.

having trouble grasping [que se le ofrece] in lesson 4.4/ translator se=is , are ,was , were le = you , it , him, her , will is amy saying, what is it offer, someone please clarify

Que se le ofrece ~ Which she offers him/her. Or something like that I don't remember because I was doing the 1st program in july-oktober. Now I'm doing the 2nd :D I'm not 100% in English either, because I'm Norwegian ;-D

I would like to point out that posting questions about the language you are learning in the specific forum for that language will garner more responses for your questions.

in lesson 4.4 se le ofrece algo mas. se by translation means is , are , was , be , and were.how do you align these words with this sentence. seems you could say puedo ofrece algo mas please enlighten me

In the rocket toolbox at the top left of your screen when you click "my community" you will then see your language's specific board at the top (in your case Spanish) and the General board at the bottom. Many people that would love to help you cannot because they do not read the general forum, but they do read the Spanish forum.

Lachlan O, well you have to find what you find most comfortable with. What I do is I downloaded all the full audio lessons to my mp3. I love them cause it does give you a very good sense of the conversation, they explain every piece of the sentence and is easy to remember and understand the structure. They are actually quite fun so I listen to them every morning while I work out at the gym. I do look a bit crazy talking to myself while trying to repeat what I hear, but everybody now know I am learning German so everybody respects that ;) ... Anyways, after listening a couple of lessons (sometimes a couple of times each) at night I go to my computer and repeat the entire lesson but now with the written material. I do the quiz and rate how I pronounce things. Once I feel I got it, I move on to the next lesson. I usually go from 2 to 4 lessons a day, depends of the time I have and my mood. I do have to admit it took me a while to finish cause I was a slacker for a few months but once I put some effort, I pretty much finished in a month. I have finished the basic course, but I still feel I have to keep practicing a few more things.

What time schedule do you propose? Is it better to study a little bit each day or a longer period each week? Thanks,

Well I would say a little each day. I find once a week you can get overloaded with information and after a while you don't really remember much, while practicing everyday words get stuck into your head. But is really more how you feel more comfortable with. Getting into the discipline of studying on your own can be hard. I did have to kick myself on the butt to do it cause let's get real, it can be fun one day, but memorizing grammar of a language can be annoying no matter if they put a circus around it to make it more appealing. Is a long road to go through!!!! but is very rewarding once you learn a few things and suddenly dialogs on movies or things in German start little by little making sense. Is like getting the answers of a riddle. Good luck :)

The brain feeds on repetition when it comes to languages. If you spent 30 minutes everyday you would be better off than studying one day for 7 hours. 7 hours is outlandish but regardless more frequency and shorter duration is better in the long run and guards against burn-out. Bless Chinese for not having conjugation to study ^_^
