Has anyone else used AI in addition of the course?

Hello everybody - coucou tout le monde ;-)
I have been using rocketfrench for almost a year and it is really comprehensible.

However, it happens that questions can come up, that are not the topic of the chapter that I am working on, so they are not being explained in that chapter (of course).

I got very comprehensive answers to specific questions from chat gpt.
It can be about the usage of words, position of them, meaning, also details in usage, differences in spoken and written french, more familiar or more formal french etc.

Has anyone else tried AI in addition to the course?

I just had a question, actually about a grammar construct, that was explained in the lesson and I had a question.

There are some subtle nuances in languages sometimes and I got a good explenation.

Sometimes an explenation in other words can be helpful as well.

I am a fan - but to make sure: in addition to the course

I definitely use AI to help provide a different explanation. Or just an explanation if I am reading and don't understand why those words were chosen. You can also use AI to talk to for practice. You can type but some let you record your voice and then listen to the response (don't look at the screen if you don't want to read the response.). I agree with you, I am a fan.

Yes, I know about the conversational practice with AI, even tried it a few times, but it stressed me, cause the AI always talks so fast and won't slow down, even if I asked for it. ;-)
At the moment I am fine with improving my prononciation with everything that's in the course of rocketfrench, “play the part” and “travelogue”.

I enjoy listening to podcasts in easy french as well and suppose, that things will come together sooner or later.

What language are you learning with rocketlanguages?

I am planning on trying this out in a few months once I am over some of the initial hurdles of learning and will report back. It would be really nice to get a system down with it that I can use for conversations on commutes or working out with a headset. The dynamic element of speaking is something I would really like to get into. Furthermore, I would love to see Rocket Chinese pilot some additional content using AI. I imagine all the learning programs are in a space race to be the first to integrate a practical and effective AI system for their language apps. I wish there was some way to download the data from all my lessons here and have the chatbot know already what I am good at, what I struggle with.

I have started to experiment with it, and it definitely has some use.  My main focus is on Rocket and three other apps to supplement it, not to mention podcasts and videos.  That's about all I have time to use and when I feel ready, will also have exchange chats via iTalki or Conversation Exchange.

Yeah, podcasts and videos are also a great asset. What other apps do you use?
I also put some content from the course into anki for spaced repetition, to let it sink in and not forget after completing a chapter or module.

@ArminZ - I use Anki as well, for sentences I pick up from other sources, as well as “French 1000 sentences”.  The spaced repitition is so useful.  I also use Memrise French, Clozemaster and ReadLang.  The latter I rediscovered recently, and it's in line with my strategy of learning vocab and grammar via context and immersion, rather than primarily on grammar rules.  My primary tool is Rocket though.

@ChrisM108, cool, thank you!

You might want to look at this guys youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@FrenchComprehensibleInput

It's relly cool - all immersion and context.

He has one word explenations, comics like Asterix, Lucky Luke, Tintin that he shows, reads and explains.

Especially his videos with the comics are great, since there is sooo much context through the story, the pictures, his explenations, gestures and noises - and it's fun.

@ArminZ - Added to my YouTube subscriptions.  It's spot on - thanks!

I think that a course, like I am currently working on level two of rocketfrench, gives you the basics in grammar and vocab.
But the french language is so nuanced, to pack all that into a intermediate level, would be too much, I guess.

Like I just found out how the placement of an adverb can slightly change the meaning, while it would seem optional at first. I am surprised how chatgpt can answer my questions and even explain those subtil nuances quite well - always hoping that it's not hallucinating, of course ;-)

@ArminZ - Is there a particular ChatGPT app you use?  I'm particularly interested in looking into a desktop one, given your comment about how effective it is.  I'm at level 1.8  Thanks in advance.

@ChrisM108: I use the mobile app from chatGPT on my android devices.

I just checked and verified, that I can go on chatgpt with my browser and login with my google and can see all my previous questions, that I discussed with chatGPT.

There is a desktop app only for macOS but not for windows.

Using it in the browser is fine for me though.  chatgpt.com

Thanks very much for checking that out @ArminZ. Much appreciated.  Chris
