Keyboard shortcuts

When doing some of the excises it is quite frustrating clicking next with the mouse, click the text field and then type on the keyboard, then grab the mouse again and click reveal and Rate button. Repeat 35 times.

Is there, or why is there not, a keyboard only option. Type the answer, press enter for reveal, then a Key for example 1-4 for the rating. The rating would automatically load the next question.

Similar frustrating issues and solutions with the flashcards and all the way throughout the Rocket Platform. I find this a huge drawback .

I like that idea of using the keyboard to advance through the various phrases in an exercise. I would find that very useful. Good suggestion.

I also would find keyboard shortcuts useful.  Hopefully, it won't be too hard for them to implement.

Hi all - This is on the list to be looked at within the next fortnight!

Great Jason, I'm not sure how many complaints you've had on that dated little keyboard. That keyboard is very inconvenient. Too many things wrong with it. Surely you can come up with something more convenient and user friendly.

I've never had extreme trouble dealing with the keyboard, but yeah, it's a slow process to write out something really long with accents, etc. That's a good suggestion, Johan.

Hi all - Update on the shortcut keys; We didn't manage to get that sorted before the Christmas holidays, so will be looking to get that done Q1, along with a bunch of other updates.

Re the keyboard; we looked at quite a few alternate options but none functioned better across devices and browsers than the one we are currently using. I know it's not a great design but we didn't really have another option for the desktop version. In saying that, if anyone knows of a good alternative we will look at it!
Grant-K1

Grant-K1

Yeah I have an alternative. Get rid of it altogether so we can just use our keyboards

Hi Jason,
Thanks for looking into it so promptly. I'm sure you'll have better luck for updates later :).  I hope you have a merry Christmas!

Hi Grant - The keyboard is just an icon, so you don't have to use it. Or am I missing something?

Hi Laura - All the best for your Christmas as well!

I was going to write the same thing to Grant: I have my keyboard set up so that I can type
accents and punctuation in Spanish without ever having to use the keyboard icon. It is much more efficient.

Rocket Languages has to find one option that works for all operating systems, all browsers, and all platforms (PC, tablet, mobile) and so they have to pick the least common denominator for all which is that keyboard icon.  We can pick the best option for our platform, operating system, and browser.  I use Google input tools for Chinese Hanzi and it works fine.  I have another input tool for writing pinyin.

With all due respect Jason, yes you are missing something!
When you're at the writing section, a person might hit "reveal" and then go to write it on their own keyboard but they can't can they? They have to use that old, inconvenient, outdated keyboard.
As for all the Rocket users out there that you may have mentioned before that may not have commented on the dreaded keyboard, many of those may not have even been on the forum for reasons unknown.

Grant: If Jason is missing something then so am I. I use the writing section every time I work through a lesson, and I use the keyboard on my laptop. I have never, ever used the "old, inconvenient, outdated keyboard" that you mention.

Well, all I can tell you is that if you hit "reveal" and you want to correct your mistakes for instance, the system won't let you use your own keyboard.
This is apparent on my system. I don't know what you're using?

Hi Dan
How would I set up my keyboard so I can type accents and pronunciation (in Italian) on my keyboard without the use of the keyboard icon.
Your help would be much appreciated.

Grant is correct. This is how it works on my computer as well. There is no way to practice writing the Rocket Language generated answer without using the icon keyboard.

Hi Grant
I think that once you hit "reveal" that is your answer and you move onto the next question. RL gives you a grading easy-hard on your written answer, but if you go into changing the writing you will give yourself an easy grading.
I prefer to do all the questions right or wrong, then at the end it repeats itself from the beginning and I try to remember what I got wrong and put in the correct answer and hopefully get an easier grading.

Grahame: here is how I did it on my Mac/OS 10 El Capitan:

System Preferences > Language and Region > Keyboard Preferences. Click the + key, click English to bring up various english keyboards on the right, highlight US International PC keyboard and click Add. Close out of System Preferences. Now in the menu bar at the top you should see a US flag. Clicking on that will allow you to switch to the US international keyboard.

I can type accented vowels by first typing ' then the vowel, the ñ by holding down OPTION and typing n, then retyping n, ¡ by holding OPTION and typing !, ¿ by holding OPTION, SHIFT, and typing ?.

I don't know how to do this on a PC but it should be similar. I also don't know if there are characters that you use in Italian that we do not in Spanish so you may have to experiment. But this should point you in the right direction.
