When I hit the record button to practice, nothing comes out/plays back. Any idea how to fix this ? I'm using win 7 and Firefox. I've been checking sounds/recordings setup but nothing stands out. Thanks for any help to get this work.

Hi GreenMaple, I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused. It appears the latest update of Flash has been causing issues for some users. The best thing to do would be to try using it on a different browser. I recommend trying Chrome first: http://www.google.com/chrome If you are still having problems, please let us know.

I'm not particularly fond of Chrome because it confuses me. I'm so used to IE. However, I agree it seems to work better with Rocket. I now use Chrome exclusively for Rocket.

I too found IE very slow , that I actually stopped using rocket record. Chrome is so much faster. I definitely recommend it to others.

I had the same problem when I upgraded Firefox to 17.0. My personal IT guy helped me downgrade back to where I was (15.0?, the latest version is 19.0) and now the recording is working fine. He said the upgraded version wasn't compatible w/Rocket French.

I had this issue tonight (although not for the first time). What worked for me was using the cell phone/ear buds microphone.

Thanks for the tip! I was using IE and recording was not working, but Chrome seems to work!

And seems to be working with Firefox 20.0, too.

My Rocket Recorder works fine on the "Know it" part, but not on the "Hear it and Say it" part, When I click the red button to talk, it doesn't get activated for me to talk. Weird because why can it work in one part, and not in the other? I have flash player 11-7-700-224 installed, and this work fine on my XP using either IE or FF, but it doesn't work on either of these browsers on my Windows 8 laptop which is what I like to use for my lessons. Now there is a new Flash Player update for 11-8-800-99, but I am not sure if downloading this version will make things worse. Can somebody tell me which is the Flash Player version that works well with Windows 8, and if it is OK to go back to it from the one I have? .

You'd think that the Rocket people would, at least write some kind of response here. This is a problem, and I hope they are working to fix it. I found the Recorder works on Chrome, but we shouldn't have to be restricted to using only one browser. I hate Chrome, and if I decide to take another class, I might just go to a different place where their tools work better.

Mine was working just fine last night, and now this morning I cannot record. Absolutely nothing has changed in my hardware or software since eight hours ago. I'm on a Mac 10.6.8 and the most current flash player using Firefox. Like I said, it worked 8 hours ago. How do I fix this? There's got to be a better answer than switching to a browser I dislike.

I found the answer! For reasons still unknown I had to go into my Global Settings (right click in the record window to launch the settings window) and allow this site to use the camera and microphone. Of course, I had already done that the first time I used the site, so why I had to go back in and authorize it all over again will forever be a mystery...

I've been using the Chrome browser with some success. When I first started using it, the browser window itself had a small allow/deny button panel under the URL asking if I wanted to give access to my microphone . I didn't see at first because I was focused on the center of the browser window. Another problem I had was that my recordings were too "big": the graphic would go beyond the scale of the plot. This kept me from buying the product for a while. However, the solution was to lower the microphone input or capture settings. Now the scale is comparable to the native speaker's recording and I can compare my peaks, troughs, and plateaus to hers. The problem where no recording is done but the permission settings appear to be correct could be caused by having the microphone volume turned down too low. It would be worth double-checking the mic settings if that were the case. I still have the problem where as soon as I drag my recording to line-up with the native speakers, then the graph re-sizes and it is "maxed-out" again, so I can't see the peak tops clearly. The funny thing is now that I have Rocket Record working, I don't use Rosetta. I do use the Rosetta headset for Rocket, though, so it has some value! :)

Hi all - Sorry about the lack of response from us on this issue. This post seemed to have fallen off the radar a little.

The issue described by Gary has happened to a few people, and Gary has quite correctly outlined the solution. We still don't know why this has happened and are surmising that it may have something to do with the recent Flash upgrade.

The members FAQ now has an item that addresses this issue.

I couldn't get it working on Chrome - tried all the suggestions. It did work on IE, but I can't line up the wave forms - clicking and dragging doesn't work for some obscure reason.

Hi, I have been working on these Italian lessons for quite awhile. Having a lot of problem with the recorder. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It always works throughout all the lesson, except when I go to take the "Play it" test. It does not record my voice. I was using it a couple of months ago and it was OK. Now that I was able to come back and continue, the darn thing is acting up again. And my Chrome. I don't know what happened to it. I had it there. Now it was gone. I had to re download it again through Google. I thought Chrome was a Microsoft software.

Regardless, the recorder does not work with IE, FF, or Chrome. What do I do now?  How am I supposed  to finish my tests. I

On top of that, I have to go back and redo all the lessons I have done before. People new to the program don't know this. But, I have been here for quite awhile and have had to redo all my lessons so many times, Every time is decided to add something new to it. I have to go back to all the lessons I had already finished, and do all the stuff that was added to it. I am tired of doing that. I know progress is good, but I which the program had been thoroughly revised before launching it. I know I have complained about this several times. but as long as stuff keep getting added to the lessons, I will never get done with any of them.

Please, have something done with the recorder. I don't want to have to come and try to figure how to fix it every time I come to do my lessons. I shouldn't have to. I've tried every thing suggested, but nothing works. I use Windows 8.1, and this has worked fine before.

Thanks,

Em: I have found that when new things are added and I need to go back and take a new test in a previously-completed lesson, it serves as a review of the lesson. Which, for me anyway, is a good thing. So I look at them as an opportunity to reinforce what I have already learned rather than an intrusion into learning new things.

Thanks Dan. Sure enough, but I am on Italian Premium Plus, and when something gets added, after all the time I have put on it, I have to quiet where I am, and go back to my very first lesson on Italian Premium and star revising each one. There are around 75 lessons in that one. After that,  I have to go and revise the ones I have already finished on Premium Plus, and then continue where I was on the first place

It was OK the first time, but this has happened around 3 times already, and it takes so much time to get things done again. What is added is good, Repetition is good, and I agree that you recollect things that have been forgotten.

My problem is that my time is limited and it takes me a long time to get where I am at, and having to keep revising old lessons, really diminishes my progress, and I am anxious to get done so I can take a French class (If they fix the recorder, that is).

Sorry, this post is out of  subject, and I will end it here. Right now I would like to know what to do about taking my Play it test when I can get the recorder to record my voice.

Thanks

Hi em21,

Thank you for your post.  Our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused.

You have raised two separate points, which I will address below:

Play It:
My apologies for the trouble you are having with Play It. Please note that the Flash settings used for recording in other sections of the lesson are different from those used in the Play it! test. If you can hear the tutor and see the script scrolling but can't record your voice, please click on Get Started, and then on the green Play It Help button.  Click on the Flash Settings link found in the first paragraph, and make sure that the options "allow" and "remember" are selected under the Privacy Settings tab. That should correct the issue you are having with this test.

Dashboard Progress/New Phrases:
I can certainly see how you would find this change in your progress frustrating.  We are planning some updates within the coming months that should prevent this kind of thing from happening again.  But in the meantime, I recommend that you email our Customer Support team with the lessons you have already finished, and we can manually mark them as complete for you - this will save you from having to test yourself on the new phrases we added recently.  Please address the email to Margaret - she is aware of the issue and will be waiting to hear from you.

I hope that helps!  Please don't hesitate to let us know if you have any further questions or comments.

I really appreciate your response. I have been using the recorder since it was made available. Most of the time it works just fine, but at times, it stops working in some  part of the class. This time it has been working fine throughout the lesson, even in the Hear it, Say it part of the tests, but when I go to do the Play it test, it won't record my voice as it normally would. The settings are all set as they are supposed to be, but when I click the red button to talk, it won't record my voice. The red line goes straight all the way through without making the up and down picks that usually are formed from my voice. This happens no matter what browser I use.

This was happening again for the last month or so. I have been postponing that part of the tests waiting for it to come back. Lo and behold, today I tried, as I normally do, to see what happens, and found that it was working fine again. Don't know what causes the problem, but will try to do as much as I can before it canks on me again.

About what you call, the new phrases. It has not been just phrases for me. It has been whole new type of tests that have been added one at a time several time after I was already done with my First Level, and part of the Second Level, and just when I finish with one addition another one is added, and so on. Boy, that bugs me enormously. But, don't take me wrong, I believe the addition are beneficial to the program.

Thanks for the offer to grade my lessons as finished, but now that these things are in, I would not want to pass them out. I want to utilize them as they do enrich my learning. I just wish everything had been in before launching the course. I would be all done by now, and maybe  I would be taking my french lesson already.

Thanks
