I want to translate these two phrases into Spanish: "my older brother" and "my oldest brother".
But, all I can find is: "mi hermano mayor", which seems to be the translation for both english expressions.
I assume there are two ways to say these expressions in Spanish.
My older brother in Spanish | My oldest brother in Spanish

Hi jroman,
Thanks for your post.
It's odd that it's showing up the French forum though. Were you purposely posting in the French forum or is this a bug we need to check out?
As for the answer to your question, "Mi hermano mayor" is "My older brother".
To say, "My oldest brother" you could say "Mi hermano mas viejo".
I hope this helps. Let us know if there's a bug with the forums and you were trying to post in the Spanish one!
Merci!
Marie-Claire

merci beaucoup Marie-Claire. "mi hermano mas viejo" does not sound correct to me, but I appreciate your response.

Hola a todos!!
I am a native spanish speaker and yes...
My older brother is "Mi hermano mayor" or "Mi hermano el mayor" or "El mayor de mis hermanos!!! :)
Now for the second one.."Mi hermano el mas viejo" is not incorrect, at least not literally, but it is not used in spanish this way..."viejo" means "old" and in spanish when you talk about something that is "viejo" that means really really old!!! elder, or old man (or simply something old , as in a car or book, or whatever)....so if you "big brother" is 18, saying he is "mi hermano mas viejo" it is going to sound funny! ;)....BUT again, the expression itself is correct, the context is the one that changes!....
Im the oldest of 3 brothers and my bro`s call me "Mi hermano el mas grande" or "mi hermano el grande"...which translates to "My big brother"....so AT LEAST IN MEXICO we use the "Mi hermano el mayor" and "Mi hermano el mas grande"....
saludos desde Mexico
;)
