I can't seem to find any explanation of the different badge levels.  What are the different badge levels?

I cut and pasted the answer about badges and below that, how to get points.

How do the badges work?

As you embark on your language learning adventure, you'll start with the "Novice" badge, a symbol of your exciting new beginning.

But that's just the start! As you dive deeper into our  comprehensive and high quality language courses, you'll earn points by utilizing the various features and tools available to you. These points will propel you through different ranks, marking your progress and dedication to mastering the language.

Here’s a list of badges so you know where you are:

  • 0 points: "Novice"
  • 500 points: "Learner"
  • 1,000 points: "Apprentice"
  • 1,500 points: "Explorer"
  • 2,000 points: "Voyager"
  • 2,750 points: "Artisan"
  • 3,500 points: "Leader"
  • 5,000 points: "Specialist"
  • 7,500 points: "Guru"
  • 10,000 points: "Certified"

After achieving the coveted "Certified" rank, you'll begin earning stars, you'll get a new one with every 10,000 points gained:

  • 12,500 points: "Green Star Master"
  • 22,500 points: "Blue Star Master"
  • 32,500 points: "Red Star Master"
  • 42,500 points: "Silver Star Master"
  • 64,000 points: "Gold Star Master"
  • 150,000 points: "Platinum Star Master"
  • 200,000 points: "Black Star Master"
  • 250,000 points "Green Star Hero"
  • 300,000 points: "Blue Star Hero"
  • 350,000 points: "Red Star Hero"
  • 400,000 points: "Silver Star Hero"
  • 450,000 points: "Gold Star Hero"
  • 500,000 points: "Platinum Star Hero"

And for those truly extraordinary language heroes who achieve over 550,000 points, the ultimate title awaits: "Black Star Hero." You will stand as a testament to dedication, perseverance, and excellence in language learning!

Hi all - Just a note on this. We are reviewing the badges system and are considering making it more achievement based (rather than points based).

This project is only in the investigative stage  but, for example, your badge may upgrade everytime you complete a Module. And you may get add-ons for completing certain other tasks (e.g. forum posting, Certification tests, etc).

I like the idea - points can be a slog if you are doing lessons, but super easy if you run audio all day with the sound off (and I am sure there are other ways to get lots of points).

I don't know if it is new, but I like the badge on my profile picture.

If someone is in this just for points, he/she can always pile them up.  If you switch to achievement based, what's to stop someone from quickly completing a module and then passing tests by looking up the answers as they go through the questions?   Have they really learned anything?  We each decide how much time we want to invest in learning a language, and what our goal is.  For some, the goal may be to just become familiar with basic phrases and the cadence of a language; others want to achieve some level of fluency.  The goal, and the amount of time we have, will dictate how we approach learning.

My goal is to get to a B1 level, hopefully by our trip to Italy in June.  That may be a stretch!  I get a lot of points because I go over and over a lesson, and repeat each answer until I feel I have the pronounciation down.   Once a lesson is complete, I go back and redo the “writing” and “know it” sections multiple times.   When taking the tests, I don't look at outside sources.  If I don't pass, I go back, review the section and  take the test again.  But that's my approach; someone else with different goals, or time he/she can spend on this, may do it differently, and that's fine.

There's nothing wrong with the achievement based system.  But neither system truly measures, nor can it, how much work we're putting in.

Good luck on B1! You can do it, but it will be some work.

Agree that any system is going to be cheated. Currently I don't think badges are even a little important (I ignore the email that tells me I was “promoted”), so if Rocket Languages wants to make badges a bigger part of the package, they need to figure out how to not just award the badge, but make it part of the learning. Unfortunately I don't have any ideas. And as many have said, if it is a big part of using this website, people will definitely be cheating the system, perhaps more so if the badge is important to using the site.

Love Rocket Spanish, great website!

Hi Scott/Susan - Revamping the points/badges system has come up many times over the years. And we have struggled with how to make it better/fairer/more motivating/etc.

Luckily, there has been a fair amount of scientific research in this area, so we want to develop a system that is markedly superior to what we currently have (even if it is still “gameable” to some degree). Watch this space!

I am curious, since this has so many pros and cons.

When I read about this I immediately thought:

when you get only get points for new achievments like finishing a module, then repeating lessonst wont get points, but that is also beneficial for learning - but could it get frustrating to repeat if you don't get points for it anymore?

I'm not in for the points, but have to admit, that it's a motivating factor for me as it is.

You get points for repeating the various parts of a lesson (except the Quiz for some reason). Same points as the first time.

Yes, I know - that is how it is now and has been since I do my course.

I was just thinking about possible changes that the ceo mentioned.

The badge system is to promote incentiveness and give you a sense of accomplishment. I don't mind a pat on the back. Cheating the badge system only cheats yourself. The point of you being in the course is to learn a language - not to bypass anything in the course that helps you achieve this.

Gee imagine trying to accumulate points by cheating. It's even more ridiculous than fishing for stupid “likes” of Facespuk from “people” who are but electro bots.
