맛있었겠다 pronounciation

In one of the lessons this is pronounced and romanized as Mat itsutgetda Previously I assumed that a ㅅ 받침 (sp?) followed by 이 would connect and pronounce as 시. ?

Hi Oggiedoggy, Sorry for the confusion. You are correct, a ㅅ followed by a vowel like 이 would be pronounced as "si". So the way to pronounce 맛있었겠다 would be "ma-shi-sseod-get-da". I know the romanization can be tricky but the audio might have been trying to enunciate syllable by syllable. However, once the ㅅ meets a vowel, it does become an 's'. Can you also let me know where you found the audio where you think it was not pronounced correctly? Thanks! - Sujung

Ah, thank you for the clarification. It's in the conversation in lesson 1.3. SOFIA a: hak saeng. The ㄱ at the end of 학 makes a 'k' sound here.

Annyoung hashimnikka sunsaengnim! I have some Korean friends that speak Korean. It used to be that I felt a bit awkward every time they spoke Korean around me, because I hadn't a clue on what they were saying! But now I know some Korean, I feel much more confident on joining in on the conversation! And yet I'm only 10 years old! Gamsahamnida Sujungnim/ Sujung ssi/ sunsaengnim! Olivia

I came here to ask the same question. In 1.3, the pronunciation of 맛있었겠다 threw me because it sounded like the ㅅ was spoken with a t-stop, even though it was followed by 이, which went against the pronunciation rules I had come across before.
