Practicing phrases that can be said different ways

How do you guys practice the lessons that have a lot of sentences that can be said different ways in Spanish?  I'm on lesson 10.5 right now and I'm finding it difficult to practice because translating from English to Spanish there are multiple correct translations (e.g. Hace cuatro años que vivo en Lima. vs. Vivo en Lima desde hace cuatro años.) so my answer may be correct but it doesn't match the flash card.  Do you mouse over to check the literal interpretation before translating, or do you just choose a translation and not worry about matching the exact phrasing to the flash card?

I used to really get wrapped up about this, especially before I realized what I was saying was also correct. Now a lot of the time I accept it as a good answer and remind myself why it is that both answers are acceptable. Sometimes is is a word difference but a lot of times it is grammar. Like article placement, adjective placement, present vs present continuous, etc. I do sometimes check the literal, but most of the time I just roll with it now (I am also in Level 2, but a little behind you).

Thanks for the replies Scott_C and Al22.  I ended up checking the literal translation on almost all the flash cards in that lesson, which I typically wouldn't do, but almost everything could be translated differently and it was really hard for me to keep track of what was right and wrong.
