Hola Panchi,
Here is a summary from Spanish Pronouns And Prepositions by Dorothy Richmond, which was helpful to me when I started learning. If the word following the interrogative pronoun is a noun use ¿Qué? if the word following the pronoun is a verb or prepositional phrase use ¿Cuál? In other questions, ¿Qué es tu nombre? My name is a word people use when they speak to me . ¿Cuál es tu nombre? Ricardo. The first elicits a definition, the second is asking what is your name from the world of names. I sought out a lot of supplemental material and I recommend the book highly. Hope this helps.
Saludos,
Ricardo
