Direct object person "a" usage

Hi!

The rule is: “If a person is a direct object in a sentence, then they need to have the personal a in front of them in the sentence.”

But in the flashcard “I am looking for you” - isn't the direct object a person (“you”) - so shouldn't this be "Estoy buscando a tí"? The answer supplied is “estoy buscándote”.

Thanks in advance!

similarly:

Puedes llamarme.

(You) can call me.

Puedes llamarme.

Shouldn't this be “puedes llamar a mí”?

I must be missing something obvious LOL

thanks

From lesson 5.6:

"When the direct object in a sentence is a person and you're NOT using a direct object pronoun to refer to them (that is, if you're using their name or referring to them by a noun (e.g. mi madre "my mother"), you need to add an a in front of them."

In your examples, those are direct object pronouns.  As a reminder, the eight direct object pronouns are: me, te, lo, la, nos, os, los, las.
