In Spanish, nouns can be masculine or feminine, as can the adjectives that accompany them. Verbs in Spanish do not have gender. *Yo vivo* uses the first-person singular _indicative_ form of the verb vivir, while *yo viva* uses the first-person singular _subjunctive_ form of vivir. Both mean "I live," but the subjunctive is used in certain circumstances that you'll learn as you become more proficient in Spanish.
I strongly recommend that you take a look at the grammar materials that accompany the Rocket Spanish course.
