Gender designations

Is there a setting available to be able to establish the user's (my) gender that would result in more appropriate audio and written demonstrations to be specific?

It's confusing to hear a man's voice demonstrating the female forms of the words. (ex. in the 1.1 module, Mauricio (a male) is demonstrating how to pronounce “encantada” (the female version). Rocket should straighten out their demonstrations to be gender specific.

Also, in the quizzes and exercises, pronouns and verbs provided in the English version (the quiz is to correctly pronounce or write the Spanish version) are not identified as female or male!! It makes it a 50/50 crap shoot to answer.  Not helpful at all.

¡Hola Margery-mR!

You've raised a really important point regarding our male voice (Mauricio) demonstrating female forms of a word. Even with an explanation, this can be confusing. Please know that in all our latest Rocket Spanish content, we have ensured that any gendered expression is said by someone who identifies as that gender so as not to cause confusion among learners. In addition, this is something we are looking to update in our current Spanish Audio lessons.

Concerning your second question, in all activities, a notation is provided so you can identify the gender, formality, and plurality where the context does not indicate this. Later in the course, where multiple orderings exist for the same sentence, we provide a literal translation to clarify which one you should use. You will see these in the top right-hand corner of each phrase. For example, Encantada “Delighted” is notated as FEM to indicate that this is the feminine form.

I hope this helps make the course more straightforward! If you have any additional concerns, feel free to let me know or get in touch with our support team.

¡Saludos!
