Ir vs salir for to go fishing

I had noticed that as well and in my research it seemed like another situation where you can use both. I did see several times if you are leaving a building to go somewhere, you should use salir but for generic “I am going fishing” I saw that both salir and ir are acceptable. 

 

Of course the really important thing is either would be understood. It may sound funny to a native speaker, pero “”La cosa más importante es que entiendes un poco, y que la gente te entiende un poco." (lesson 8.3)
