Completar, cumplir

My dictionary defines completar as "to complete." It defines cumplir as "to end, to finish, to carry out, to do. These sound like synonyms to me. Do others of you use them interchangeably, or do you perceive a difference between them?

I think completar means "to complete" like we say in English. I also think cumplir can mean "to attain, reach", like one does when they have a birthday.

Hola a todos, Estoy de acuerdo con Robert. Creo que los verbos son poco similar pero no exacamente idéntico. Saludos, Ricardo

I have not seen the verb completar in the RS exercises. I have seen the verb cumplir a few times. Thanks for giving another verb to add on to my database.

Aurora, I am not sure completar has been in the RS lessons. I was writing it in another context and started wondering about its use vs. cumplir. You must concentrate on verb study same as I do. At some point it occurred to me just how central verbs are to the Spanish language. I have a set of RS verb flashcards in Quizlet that I run through every day. And whenever I do a new RS lesson I look for new verbs to add to my set. I'm pretty close to 200 right now. Here is the link in case anyone would like to use the set: http://quizlet.com/33918156/verbos-infinitos-flash-cards/

Suena emocionante. This is from my current lesson. I wanted to use it. Actually when I took high school Spanish a long time ago, all I did was memorize the conjugation of verbs. I could not remember the practical application at all. And I think, we never graduated from the present tense. What were they thinking? I usually use the Spanishdict where there so many types of conjugating a verb. Most of the other types are not covered by RS yet. I just finished studying the lesson on "Por vs Para". It is very good. I decided I am going to start speaking in Spanglish to anyone who would listen including my grandchildren and their pet Phinney", the rabbit who is so cute.
