Quieres vs quieras

Tú puedes hacer lo que quieras. You can do what you like. Should this be quieres instead of quieras?

I would think so too, Aurora. But I just looked up querer in my Big Red Book of Spanish Verbs and it has this example of usage: Haz lo que quieras...Do as you wish/like. But I don't understand why. Hopefully one of the gurus will help us out. ¿Cómo se dice "Yoda" en español?

I guess the grammar is correct for quieras. I started googling the word and the explanation looks more advance to me. So, I guess I'll just be patient and just memorize it.

Hola amigos, It's because this falls into the realm of uncertainty and it's an indirect command, which requires the subjunctive. If you have a copy of " Breaking Out of Beginner's Spanish", go to the "Twilight Zone" chapter and that should help clarify things. Saludos, Ricardo

Hola! We don't have a word for Yoda in spanish (too bad :( because I'm a big fan of Master Yoda), and we just call it Yoda :D. Rich just gave a very good explanation. If you want to use "quieres" you would have to change the sentence, and probably the meaning will also change. It is and indirect command, and it does uses the subjunctive. So its like a combination of a imperative sentence with and extra "option" for you to choose freely, "Tú puedes hacer lo que (tú) quieras" or the formal one, "Usted puede hacer lo que quiera". Saludos Jedi Masters!

No sé, Mamá. O Mario la deja o me encuentro otro amigo. Why is it "me" and not "yo encuentro"

Reflexive? Literally, I find me another friend.

I find me another friend. In Spanish we use 'me' as the indirect pronoun. It also appears before the verb so the sentence becomes either "me encuentro otro amigo" or "yo me encuentro otro amigo". Adding the yo would be for emphasis.
