Hola Barbara!!!.
Spanish in Mexico may differ just a bit from the one spoke in Ecuador, the basis that is given to you in rocket spanish will help you understand and speak a "standard" or "universal" kind of spanish, this means that a person in Mexico, Ecuador, Argentina or España will be able to understand what you are trying to say!...
The main difference i could find between the types of spanish are some "everyday expressions" or some words, and also accent, which change from region to region, even in Mexico you will find that people in some states of the north speak with a diffrent accent and some specific words, than the people who live in the center or southern Mexico....same happens with english in the US, of course a person from California can stablish a normal conversation with someone from Alabama, but they going to find a few differences!!!
Espero haber ayudado!....saludos desde Mexico (el noroeste de Mexico!)
