Su vs. ella (or maybe something else)

In lesson 1.11 I'm told “Yo soy su amigo” translates as “I am her friend.”  Is that correct? I thought “su” meant “your.” Google Translate thinks so.

Hola FredH8,

It means both. Lesson 4.8 in language and culture will clarify.

Su can be his, her or your.

¡Hola a todos!

Indeed, ricardo-rich and Scott_C are correct: su can mean “his,” “her,” or “your (plural / formal)” - and it can mean “their” or “its” too! :)

The lesson ricardo-rich has pinpointed (4.8: "Talking About 'Yours' and 'Mine'") has a full explanation that should help to clear everything up.

Saludos,

Liss
