Find out what actual users have to say about our courses through their Rocket German reviews.
1. You could give more practice with the words, before passing to the flashcards.
2. More activities can be introduced, such as putting in the missing words in the sentences, and others like those. Currently, the major way of learning is merely the typical drills. It is too much technical, which is good if it is something additional, but without the greater variety of the exercised it is too inhuman, and somewhat boring. I am also comparing it with the Babbel, and they have some adaptions to the humans, when the dialog is going on, and one has to add the missing words. So, more human like activities would be useful.
Cannot say anything about the customer service, because did not use it yet.

Thank you for your review and for these feature requests. We have passed this feedback on to the Rocket German team for them to have a look at.
German Level 1 was great - detailed and thorough, moving at a good pace. I have just started Level 2, and it is a different thing entirely, and unfortunately not at all good. It seems to have been botched together from a previous, separate attempt at a course (the numbered Audio lessons are completely different in the lesson plan and in the audio track), and it doesn't follow on from Level 1 in any meaningful way (there’s repetition of stuff we've already covered).
Most disappointing is a dramatic drop in quality of the Language lessons. The grammar explanations are much shorter, and leave gaps and questions unanswered. The lessons on Dative and Genitive are terrible - cursory explanations and patchy examples. Example sentences either display grammatical features which go wholly unexplained in the text; or fail to display the relevant grammar at all. Poorly thought out, and a frustrating contrast to the excellent Level 1.

Hi Tim - At the start of 2020 we revamped all of Rocket Germans Level 1 Language & Culture lessons (the ones you speak highly of!), and were it not for the pandemic we would have also released fully updated Interactive Audio lessons for Level 1 as well (these are probably a month or so away now). Level 2 is going to be revamped in the style of Level 1 soon.
I am in the last (7th) Module of Level 1.
Generally, I like the course because it is very structured and explains language concepts very well. I like that there are dedicated grammar lessons that clearly concentrate on building your grammar foundations. A complete opposite of Duolingo which has no grammar explanations at all.
Some people find the humor in the course stale but I have no issue with it (not great but not bad either, tolerable).
The course does a pretty bad job in all flashcards and speaking (translation) exercises when the "you" word needs to be translated into German (translates to one of "du", "ihr", "Sie"). None of them are commented so you just make frustrating mistakes. There should be clear hints what is expected there.
The lessons are generally very long (often takes an hour to finish) which is not great. I think they should be broken up to smaller lessons that are no longer than 30 minutes. Due to the long time required to finish a lesson, I often cannot finish one during a single day and can only do the remaining part next day.
The Android app has been rewritten since I started the course and it is much better now (huge improvement there, congrats to the devs).
The price is also very hefty for the course. The ~250 EUR I paid should be some family package with 4-6 members (with separate progress tracking). An advertisement supported version would also be appreciated.

Thank for taking the time to share your thoughts on the course; it's great to hear that you generally enjoy the course. Regarding the flashcards and speaking exercises, there will be a notation visible to use as hints for you to know which version of the word "you" to use. We recognize that some lessons can be long but that is because we pride ourselves on comprehensiveness, the lessons will always save your place in them if you choose to leave and come back at a later date. We hope you continue to get the most out of your Rocket German course.
I've only just started my course and am on module 1. However I am really enjoying it and find the course much better than a short course I did recently. I find it a much better course for teaching modern conversational German. As the previous one was more academic. I would prefer if the mobile app was tweaked so that the screen remained always on and not slept while being used in the car. That aside I can highly recommend the course however.
This course is great, the audio lessons make it walk in the park to learn the new language. Though i feel they could have made it a little more immersive. But at the end of it you will surely have enough German to get you through your first trip or your grammar book :).
great application for German learning.
great free policy
Not the easiest to navigate, but sure beats the heck out of RosettaStone! Male voices seem to be easier to understand for me and would be nice to have the option of switching. Overall, a hearty thumbs up.
I love the challange that this product provides. It makes you think outside a normal learning experience and , I think, provides a greater understanding of the language in order to communicate more naturally
Rocket Languages caters perfectly to my learning style. I can't just absorb language by osmosis, I need to have things explained to me and I need to have it repeated.
Rocket Languages explains the subjects it's teaching without expecting me to have any background in linguistics. I feel like I've learned and retained so much already!
Great language course with tools that are easy to use and reinforce learning. Lot's of practice with pronunciation. I like that one of the instructors is native and one is not, provides a balanced perspective and real world examples.
