I first started my Italian lessons using Rosetta Stone. After spending almost $300 on the complete Italian course, I advanced pretty quickly and then just gave up after completing a few levels. It was a chore and not fun. I never felt that I was actually learning anything that was useful. I was not retaining the materials. Then I tried Rocket Italian, purchasing the complete course. I love Rocket Italian so much more! I feel I am really absorbing the content. I like the interactivity, the dialogues, the real usefulness of the conversations. Thank you, Rocket Italian!
Rocket Italian is great! I believe there is one mistake in lesion 5.7 The section heading past perfect tense is actually the present perfect tense. Thus far I am really enjoying this course. It is a great way to learn Italian, the language of all my grandparents whom were born in the area around Torino. My wife and I enjoy Italy. She is impressed that I can use my Italian there.
One of my favorite features of Rocket Italian is the fact that there are many opportunities to listen to and imitate native Italian speakers. Even though I've been learning Italian for approximately 1.5 years (I've completed all 5 of the Pimsleur Italian courses (the 5th was just released in May 2015)), I know that one can never underestimate opportunities to listen to the target language as it should be spoken. I also appreciate that Rocket provides ample opportunities to speak the language, and even provides feedback of pronunciation with the Rocket Record feature. Another feature that I really like about Rocket is the attention it gives to explaining grammatical and cultural aspects of the language. I've checked out a number of textbooks (and have even taken a formal course in Italian (with textbooks I absolutely detested)), and am impressed with how clearly and simply Rocket explains complex grammatical concepts. The areas of Rocket that I believe are weakest are opportunities for reading and writing the language. There are opportunities to read the conversation transcripts and the vocabulary exercises, but these are limited to short samples.
Before starting with Rocket, I had done another software-based course, which was a good foundation from the point of view of grammar, etc. I had got as far as I could with that and Rocket has proved to be the best way for me to continue and expand my knowledge of Italian. I especially like having the facility of recording my own voice to compare with the proper pronunciation; also having the app on my phone is very useful, especially when I am on the train. I have recommended it to other people, and would continue to do so.
Compared to the French and Spanish language that I have learned years back, then the Italian language grammar Is easy, to understand and follow. To have my fantastic two teachers to pronounce all the words and the grammar in a way that makes the essence of the words and grammar sinks in, so that I can remember the words and sentences, has given me a fantastic start, and I have therefore decided to by all three levels of Italian at ones.
Rocket languages is fantastic!!! Probably the best language course I have embarked on. I have just come back from a holiday in Italy (Rome and a day trip to Naples) and whilst there won three compliments on my (still not perfect) Italian from the locals. This has given me the confidence to work through the course and then take it to the next level.
I have been studying Italian since 2010. Rocket Italian has been my primary learning vehicle although I have dabbled with others. Even with Rocket Italian, I suffer from 2 things everyone else struggles with: 1. Not having a person (s) with whom I can carry on a conversation and 2.I have a real job that takes up a lot of time. I have all 3 products, levels I, II and III and early on I raced through each lesson and did the multiple test questions at the end then went on. Then as time went on, I went back and listened to each lesson a 2nd and 3rd and 4th time and did all the tests. Hear it Say it, Write it and Know it. When I started doing those faithfully, my learning really took off. Another thing that has helped me recognize words is a website you can go to called Slow News in Italian. You can google it. It’s the days news slowly, in Italian and the translation is there if you struggle. It really helps pick up conversation. I offer these ideas because I just read several of the posts people have made and I see so many of us with the same issues. Buon imparando!
I just wanted to say a big thank you to Rocket for the fab Italian course I have recently started. Rocket has given me the structure and encouragement to sit down on a regular basis and learn a language that I have always wanted to know better. I listen, I speak, I write and I understand. Easy to use, very accessible and I love it!
I like the approach especially since it has been updated and revised. I took about 2 mos off for travel in Italy. The early lessons and practice using through Rocket Italian was very helpful and added a lot of enjoyment to the trip.
Done very well. Especially for older persons like me who have trouble remembering. Glad to see you point out formal vs informal. It is not just memorizing a script, information provided gives you a understanding of what is being said. Review process at the end of each lesson is very helpful.
