The app on iPhone doesn’t work property. After I email the customer service for a few days, the problem still has not been solved. The app is not as good as the desktop version., which is a shame. The responses from customer service seem slow. The audio lessons are interesting but the culture and language don’t make me feel interested about learning. There are definitely things that require improvement.
No soy angloparlante nativo, tengo un nivel de inglés intermedio, sin embargo puedo entender perfectamente el curso (dictado en Inglés). El método es muy entretenido, combina varias cosas buenas que ví en otros cursos, y sin darte cuenta terminás la unidad sabiendo expresarte un poco más y de tal manera que las frases quedan dando vueltas en tu cabeza, que con un poco de práctica se hacen naturales (vienen instantáneamente cuando las necesitas).
I am an intermediate French student, but I am starting with the beginner lessons as review because I rarely have an opportunity to listen to native French speakers or to practice speaking. I am finding the lessons very helpful to develop my "ear" and my accent. The explanations of the grammar points within the dialogues are very clear and the opportunities to practice speaking are great.
I have used several online French courses and this is by far the best, though Babbel is quite also.
I've used many language learning courses, and have found this one to be particularly impressive. I think the writing aspect of new vocabulary is vital, and something that tends to be overlooked by other methods; the ease of revision is also a major point in its favour, through flashcards, repeating activities already done, and so on. I've been using this for French, and would certainly consider purchasing a package for another language. The free trial was also a great way of allowing me to make up my mind before investing in the course. I'd certainly recommend this to anyone else seeking an effective way of starting a language.
I had a trial and bought 3 level courses all together straight way. It’s the best learning experience so far, better than the evening class I attended 8 years ago. Leaderboard points system, Voice recognition and reinforcement tasks make learning more fun and efficient. It works well for my lifestyle as I work full time.
I have used it for 11 days and I am very pleased with my progress so far. Thank you!
I am aiming to finish level1 by the end of the year. I will update my progress after that. Good luck everyone!
I've been doing the Rocket French course for about a month and it's really helping me out so far. I cannot compose complex sentences yet, but I can comprehend parts of french songs texts and I feel I'm really learning the language.
Because I'm a native portuguese and fluent english speaker, many parts of the language are familiar to me (gender, pronouns and some nouns in case of portuguese, and many nouns in case of english) which seems to help my learning process.
I'm doing benchmarks on the end of each module to track my evolution and during each module I review the previous day lesson to fix it on my mind. The interesting part of it is that I can easely remember the phrases of that lesson and the hard ones become much easier (specially in a pronounce aspect).
I'd like to have a simpler way of adding words to flashcards (as easy as adding them to My Vocab) and to have lessons with no more than 40 words each (i.e a Rocket Reinforcenment of 60 words has 80 more exercises than one with 40 words), for it's harder to learn all of the content and it's more tiresome to complete all exercises.
Another difficulty I have is to differentiate some plural words from singular ones, like "elle" and "elles" which sound the same to me (at least when spoken alone).
Other than that, I really like the grammar lessons, for they are easy to understand and not boring at all (which is kinda surprising for me)!
Current streak also motivates me to keep the most days I can without missing a lesson.
I bought the French language version. Very good. I don't know about the other courses but I have a couple of reasons for not giving it a 5 star rating: 1. The pronunciation of the female speaker in the early lessons is often bad. She has a habit of not pronouncing the nasal "n" in the middle of words or in liaison word combinations. Consequently I use Google translate to learn and practice the pronunciation of these words. Google has a fast and slow mode which is also helpful but no male speaker option. Forvo pronunciation does but is limited in available styles. The best I've found is Acapela which has a choice of male, female, France French, Belgium French, Canadian French, emotive, flat, etc, but no speed option. The good thing is that the voice recognition system does recognize the pronunciation I use from Google etc. If I copy the speaker in the Rocket Language course when she uses words with "n" in the middle ( e.g. vingt, prendre, or combinations like "pas inquitez") it doesn't recognize them. NOTE, I am a native English speaker fluent in Chinese and Japanese. I have had many hours in language labs learning unfamiliar sounds.
I JUST BOUGHT THE TRAVELOGUE AND I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED.!!! This version does not give the sentence by sentence AUDIO translation: first spoken in French then telling you what it is in English, which DOES NOT MAKE IT USEFUL WHILE DRIVING OR WORKING OUT. THIS VERSION LIMITS ABILITY TO USE IT BEST WHILE ONLY ABLE TO READ THE TRANSLATIONS. THE USAGE IS MUCH MORE LIMITED!!!
Response from Rocket Languages
Hi Ana - You will be pleased to know that we have added in audio tracks in both English and French to the Rocket French Travelogues. Effectively they now work like an audio book. Not only that we added in subtitles so you can follow along more easily with the apps or desktop versions.
This is the most effective language training tool that I've come across. I took three years of language courses when I was still in school, but the face to face instruction and curriculum never really reached me in the way that I've had with Rocket Languages. Between the app and the online course, it makes learning a new language fun and much easier than I could possibly have anticipated.
Great product with multiple learning methods as well as multiple review and comprehension tools for adult learners.
It's helpful that they also include "street French", differing dialogues, and variations.
